We stopped in Grand Marais twice on our trip, once before heading up the Gunflint and the second after coming off the trail...both times we got stuck with rain showers or thunderstorms...
But regardless, there are still rocks to throw...
At pizza to eat at Sven & Ole's...
The harbor is a good place to clean your feet...
And to throw some more rocks...
It wasn't the best view of the Sawtooth Mountains, but we could still make out their outline slightly...
On the way down the trail, we stopped at Pincushion Mountain to take a peek of Grand Marais from this higher elevation...
But in reality, Lukie and Lex just wanted to get back down to the lake...I'd like to think that Lukie was contemplating something big in the picture below...but it's probably more likely he was just thinking about throwing rocks...
Because that's what he did immediately after getting off that rock...
With a lake that big...there just aren't enough rocks to throw...
Sometimes we stop at the ranger station on the way through and Lukie wanted to again. They have a small display that is interesting and they hand out a bag of goodies for kids...Lukie wanted the bag of goodies...
Five miles south of Grand Marais is the Cut Face Creek wayside rest and Lukie/Lex wanted to stop...so they could throw more rocks...
We'd never seen the water so high up, covering the beach...
We had to navigate over the rocks to get to the area to throw rocks...
The creek was really low, so we went upstream to explore the creek...
Lex was looking for a rock with preserved ripples on it so she could take it back, she found one, but this one was too big...
Grand Marais is a nice town to visit for a short while, I couldn't imagine staying there in the summer though...too many people...
