North Shore Camping Trip - Day 5

It was getaway day...time to head back...and for Lukie, it was imperative that we got back to town by 5:00 pm...

But before we could leave Judge Magney State Park, we had a couple of pictures we had to take first...we had to take pictures with the sign...

And our stamp book with the sign...this was officially the 25th state park we visited in which we received a stamp for our passport (as of writing this, we do have the missing stamp, so Magney became our 26th park)...

We got to talk a little bit about geology before heading too far down the shore...

But we had to make a short stop at Cascade River State Park south of Grand Marais...with having our 25th stamp in our passport, we were eligible for a couple of 'prizes' and the people at Judge Magney could only give us one of the two due...

Lukie wanted to receive both at the same time so we made a short stop to receive a coupon for a free night of camping and a pin recognizing the achievement...Lukie was ecstatic...

The next stop they wanted to make was at Gooseberry to see the falls, it is a zoo during the late summer and we were there for 45 minutes or so before we took off...we only made one more stop for a late lunch and to get gas...

The reason Lukie 'had to' get back somewhat early last night was because he wanted to go swimming...but this was important to him.  That night (and the following night) were the last two nights his favorite person in the world would be working before heading to school and he was not going to miss saying goodbye.  Of course there was a lot of time jumping off the board too!

He wanted me to get pictures of his splashes...this was one of the smaller ones...

Some people think I've been exaggerating about his favorite person...I'm not.  He looks up to her and respects her completely.  And to her credit, I think she looks after him and doesn't seemed bothered by him.  From him talking to her before/after her games, at his elementary school, the pool, seeing her at town team games this summer, etc., they know each other pretty well.  She invited him to her graduation party, and of course he went.  He asked her if she would come to his baseball games, and of course she came...he's got volleyball gear for the college she's going to play for, he's expecting to go and watch, and she's expecting him to be there...

It is not an exaggeration...he had to be back in order to swim that night.  I didn't stick around until closing the next night (her last night), but according to the guards that were there, there was a pretty solemn hug between them before they left -- I do know that Lukie seemed bummed that night until he went to bed.  It'll be interesting to see how this goes in the future, and this might be the end, but they had a good run...
