Lex played softball this summer for the first time (yeah she played t-ball and combo ball, but both of those were with baseballs) and tonight was the last game. This was softball with a machine pitch. She wanted to play and it was fun to watch...
She got incredibly better, if you were there from the first game to the last. Her weakness is fielding the ball, she's worried about getting hit by the ball, but she got a whole lot better...just like swimming, she always plugged her nose going under water or off the diving board, but we solved that in the past 4 days!!!
She'll get better fielding...it just takes practice...
I was initially intrigued with how batting would go, but it went great! We practiced a lot this spring/summer and I think she was happy...
Even though she swung and missed on the picture below, she hit the next pitch. She batted four times tonight and put the ball in play all four times. To my knowledge, she only struck out one time all season (I missed one game out of ten...90%, that's an A)...
You could see her growing more confident in the gameplay, like situations on defense or running the bases...
But of course the highlight of tonights game (for many girls) was to take the hot dog bun (given for free) and feed it to the ducks in Hamburg...
Very early on in the season, Lex was given the option to play an extended season of 'player pitch' softball. She went back and forth and never really gave an answer saying she wanted to play. So the signup passed and she's not going to play. Two days ago, some of the girls must've been talking about the extended season before the game, because Lex came running up to me and asked if she could play. But it was too late...
She had fun...she got better...and I bet she plays the extended season next year...
