Lex's Birthday...

She turned 9 today...wow...where did that go?  We were camping and exploring a bit of the Iron Range this weekend (more on that later) and she woke up on her birthday in a tent!  But Lukie and I had a bit of a surprise for her...

Lukie had been up since 6am, he woke me up at 6:15...but Lex continued to sleep.  Shortly before 7:00 am, she came out of the tent and woke me up for a second time, but this time I was in the hammock.  Lukie couldn't wait...without a cake (hard to keep secret for days at camp), we had birthday cupcakes ready for her on her birthday!

I know it looks dark, the picture is time-stamped at 7:06 am (we were in a very wooded campsite)...I think she was surprised...

And on your birthday you have to blow out candles, right?!?!  Well, the only candle we had was a citronella candle we occasionally use for bugs...but it worked just fine...

We sang 'happy birthday' like we should...and yes, she was able to blow the candle out...

So, before she ate her breakfast, she had her birthday cupcake...Lukie had eaten breakfast about 45 minutes earlier, so he didn't have one...

We then spent a big chunk of the day coming back to town.  We made some stops (that will show up here later), but after dinner, Lukie and Lex took off to play with the neighbor kids for a while, meaning we had presents late in the day...

First up is Dumbo the movie, this is the new Dumbo, not the animated version from years ago...we'll see how it is...

Then there was torpedos...sinking toys for the pool (to go along with the splash balls).  Both of them have a bag that they take to the pool - it carries all they need for the day, like towel, toys, goggles, etc.  Lukie has the same splash balls and torpedos in his bag, but considers them his...now no more mine vs. hers...

I think most of us know Lukie likes Legos...so does Lex!  She also likes strong women characters like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel in the recent superhero movies.  Combine Legos with Captain Marvel and she's happy...

Lex also has quite the set of Lego activity sets going...she got another one tonight...

I can't pretend to explain this set as much as I can on the Marvel sets, but she's already explained how this will fit into her city she has already built...

She's been building Legos for the last hour...a good day...
