Oh...the anticipation on the bus...
Of course we have to sit in the farthest seat from the door...
The first stop has always been the DNR building to see the reptiles and fish, but look at the monster Lake Superior Agate we saw...49.5 pounds!! Agates form as minerals precipitate out of water flowing through vesicles or holes in basalt on the north shore...this was a massive vesicle...
Then we climbed the fire tower...it's good to do early in the day, before it gets too hot...
It's one fo the many times we view the fair from above...
You can't go to the fair and miss the DNR's fish pond...we've spent a lot of time there watching the many species of fish...
And since we spend so much time hiking throughout Minnesota's landscape, they had to jump into the hiking boot...
From the DNR building, it was off towards the Dairy Building...where Lex gets to see a princess...
You can't leave the Dairy Building without a couple of malts...and cheese curds...I didn't get much of the malts, but the curds were mine...
From there, we continued walking the fair, until we got to the Space Tower...and of course we went up...
Lukie really wanted to go into the University of Minnesota building...I think he was hoping to get a pair of sunglasses like last year, but he also wanted to text Kieran a picture of him and trophies won by the U in the last year...
At that point, we were hungry...and needed a pronto pup...
The problem was that I only put ketchup on it...I got one bite and Lukie devoured the rest...I thought he might eat the stick! I did not make the condiment mistake later...we got several...one only had mustard on it...Lukie won't eat it with mustard!
In the 4-H building, Lex really wanted to find the dress made out of playing cards that we had seen at the Carver County Fair...we knew it would be there...
If there is the largest traveling ferris wheel in the country at the fair (and we rode it last year), you know we're going on it again...
Yep...I'm a threat to kids...
The KARE 11 barn is always busy...nice place to refill water bottles...throw a couple of footballs if you're Lukie and get your pennies pressed flat with various designs...
Lex loves the Miracle of Life barn...baby chicks, ducks, lambs, pigs, cows, etc...she'd sit there forever...
At the Eco-Experience Building, if you completed the 'Climate Connections Bingo' you received a free buff...it was fun watching Lukie and Lex learn about how to minimize human contributions to HUMAN CAUSED CLIMATE CHANGE...
Of course, when it's 85 degrees, I don't know if you want to wear it like Lukie...
To save our walking legs, we took the Sky Ride from one end to the other...they loved watching the people work load fairgoers onto the ride...
In the Agriculture Building, Lex loved having insects crawl all over her...hissing cockroaches, caterpillars, beetles, etc...
Lukie liked the cockroach until it got almost to his elbow, then he jumped and the cockroach hit the table...
You can't go to the fair and not see the largest pumpkin!!
We all went to the fair right...you can see it there...
You also can't go to the fair without going down the slide! Lukie and Lex went once...then I was challenged to a race...I hadn't been down the slide in 20+ years probably, but the three of use went up...then they cheated and started early...still fun.
Back at the DNR building, we caught the raptor show and got up close with the raptors...
When we're tired...thirsty...we head to the all-you-can-drink milk barn...$2.00 bought us at least ten glasses of milk...only one was chocolate (Lukie won't drink the chocolate)...
Remember when I said we all went to the fair? Yeah, a new record was set! Besides an hour or two in the afternoon, it didn't feel like there was that many more people than normal at the fair...
Another good day...
